Personalized Medicine: Promises & Challenges: On June 20, 2008, AAAS and the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) are co-sponsoring a two-part conference on the potential implications of personalized medicine. The morning session will include discussion among stakeholders in clinical practice, research, patient groups, industry, insurance, and others. The afternoon session will be a seminar on the legal, regulatory and policy issues surrounding personalized medicine. You can attend either session or the entire conference. Judicial Seminars on Neuroscience: This project to educate judges on advances in neuroscience has been awarded a new grant by the Dana Foundation for four more seminars in 2008. Workshop on Emerging Norms, Law and Ethics in Virtual Worlds: AAAS consponsored a workshop at Arizona State University (ASU) that explored the social, ethical, and legal implications surrounding virtual communities. The workshop was held on March 10, 2008.
- China and Research Integrity: AAAS and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) convened a meeting on September 26-28, 2007 in Beijing to begin a cross-national dialogue on issues related to integrity in science. Topics on the meeting agenda included: (1) Scientific Freedom and Scientists’ Responsibility in China and the US; (2) Ethics in Scientific Publishing; (3) Misconduct in Scientific Research; (4) Educating for Ethics in Science, and (5) The Role of Scientific Societies and Organizations in Promoting Research Ethics.
Continued dialogue between both parties is anticipated.
- Voting Research: AAAS is compiling research on the U.S. voting system, including issues such as ballot design, accessibility, election law, and voting behavior.
