Scientific Freedom, Responsibility & Law Program

In response to cultural, normative, and practical questions associated with the evolution of electronic journals, an international project is underway to identify practices and standards for publishing in electronic science journals. The project explores such matters as what constitutes a publication, peer review, citation, privacy, intellectual property rights, and integrity and authentication of material and archiving. Included at the site are details of the agenda at a workshop organized for the project and a compilation of the original essays prepared by workshop participants. The project is a collaboration among AAAS, the International Council for Science (ICSU Press), and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
