Background: Environmental Science, with current emphasis on soil carbon and black carbon characterization and their science policy implications. I am also a consultant for the Research Competitiveness Program (RCP) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). And I blog for AAAS MemberCentral.
Question 1: Why did you become a scientist?
Answer: I used to question everything since childhood and sought explanations for natural events and human behavior.
Question 2: What are you most proud of in your work?
Answer: My first peer-reviewed paper in a major journal. Also, my Bachelor's thesis on rainwater harvesting: it was my first major research endeavor and probably the one most closely related to society at the grassroots level.
Question 3: What fuels your passion for your work?
Answer: The knowledge that my work has and will have a positive and sustainable influence on nature and people.
Question 4: Tell us about a hobby or passion outside of work.
Answer: Meeting and knowing new people, learning about their backgrounds and work, networking, and connecting and helping people.
Question 5: What's playing on your iPod/music player?
Answer: Everything from western and eastern classical to world fusion.
