Scope and Contents

The Academies of Science are affiliate organizations which receive funding for student research from AAAS. AAAS provides grant money from a fund originally established by Charles Goethe and his wife for the promotion of scientific inquiry by high school and college students in 1944 and additional funds were granted by US Steel and other donors. The fund was managed by Hans Nussbaum from 1944 to 1974, and in 1974 management of the grants and interactions with the National Academies of Science was taken over by the Office of Education under Charles Livermore. In 1980, the grants were managed by Joseph Dasbach, who also sat on the board of the National Association of Academies of Science as the AAAS representative.

Arrangement

These records are arranged into four boxes, one containing the proceedings of the National Association of Academies of Science meetings and directories, and three containing the papers of Charles Livermore and Henry Dasbach regarding the distribution of grant monies and the business of the NAAS.
