The AAAS Science and Human Rights program has taken action on behalf of 3,000 scientists, engineers, and health professionals in over 70 countries who have been detained, persecuted, imprisoned and/or tortured. The program conducts its actions through letters, petitions, and fact-finding missions. The program has supported use of forensic science in Argentina, Guatemala, and Haiti, as well as the use of statistical applications to document human rights abuses in South Africa and Kosovo.
