The AAAS Office of International Science was involved in monitoring U.S. and U.N. Secretariat preparations for the 1979 U.N. Conference on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD). AAAS had two goals in this regard: 1) inform the American scientific and engineering community on the planning, organization, and objectives of the UNCSTD Conference, and 2) bring substantive policy issues related to the role of science and technology in the development process to the attention of the UNCSTD Secretariat and U.S. Coordinator office. These records document the many AAAS activities related to UNCSTD, leading up to and after the Conference.
