On October 17-19, 2022, the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition will hold its annual conference in hybrid format. Attendees may participate virtually or in person at AAAS headquarters in Washington, DC.

Registration is now open! Click the "Register Now" button below to sign up. We will have two periods for registration: advanced (through September 27) and regular. Registration fees are lower for attendees who sign up for advanced registration.

The theme of this year’s conference is The Human Right to Science and Freedom of Expression. View the preliminary agenda here.

The conference is an opportunity for all those interested in or working on science and human rights to engage with each other, build trust, and develop new partnerships. This year’s event aims to give attendees practical tools so they can better support colleagues under threat, advocate for scientific freedom and responsibility, and articulate how and why the overlaps between the right to science, academic freedom, freedom of expression, and freedom of association are essential to solving today’s urgent human rights challenges.

Financial Support

We do not want the cost to be a barrier to participating in this year’s conference. Depending on need and the number of requests we receive, the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition may be able to provide a stipend to reimburse some of the costs of your conference registration fee, travel, and hotel (if attending in person). Please click here to fill out a brief application. Applications are due by September 16. A member of the Coalition Secretariat will contact you about your request by September 23. Preference will be given to first-time attendees, those who plan to attend in person, and those who have limited or no other financial support to attend the conference, but all are welcome to apply.
