The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology today released a new report assessing the challenges facing the U.S. research system. The report identifies two major trends that are shifting the research landscape: industry’s increasing focus on R&D for short-term needs in the face of increased international competition; and the globalization of science and technology, marked by increased foreign investments in research capacity – particularly in Asia.
