Scientific community/Education/Education policy

AAAS Materials Research Society and the Optical Society Congressional Fellow Ashley White works on STEM education policy in Washington, DC. She has helped Senator Al Franken introduce a bill supporting STEM teachers as part of the renewal for No Child Left Behind.

Previously she had done extensive biomaterials research on bone replacement technology incorporating carbon nanotubes. She is also an accomplished violinist, having played since she was six years old.

White sat down with AAAS MemberCentral to talk about her research, what she wants to do for STEM education and to play the violin. She played three songs for us, including a piece by Bach and a fiddle tune.
