2019 Science, Technology and Human Rights Conference

1200 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC
AAAS Science Technology and Human Rights Conference

Ten years ago, AAAS launched the Science and Human Rights Coalition, a network of scientific associations and professional societies that recognize that science and scientists are vital to the realization of human rights. To mark the Coalition’s first decade of impact and pave the way for the next ten years, this conference will draw attention to the important role scientists, engineers, and health professionals have played in promoting and protecting human rights.

This three-day conference, to be held in Washington, DC  23-25 October 2019, will bring together human rights leaders from around the world, academic researchers across different disciplines, scientists and engineers who work in private industry, government officials, members of impacted and vulnerable communities, and students in science, engineering, human rights, health and law. Together we will take stock of progress made towards building effective partnerships between the scientific community and human rights communities, sharing lessons learned and developing collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches to the most urgent human rights challenges ahead of us, including climate justice, migration, and global health. The conference will include training workshops, a showcase of applications of science and technology to human rights, and a reception recognizing innovative human rights organizations that employ scientific methods, tools, and evidence in their work.
