DoSER lecture: Are We Only Our Genes?

, ,

The Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) Program at the American Association for the Advancement of Science invites you to join us to explore the complex relationship between genes and human identity. Molecular biologist and scholar of science and religion, Denis Alexander, will discuss recent advances in developmental biology, genomics, epigenetics and behavioral genetics, including the flurry of publications from the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) consortium, along with their implications for notions of human freedom and responsibility.

Journalist Steve Paulson will respond with insights into how the public responds to questions of science and determinism arising not just from genetics but from neuroscience as well.

Denis Alexander, Emeritus Director of the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion, St. Edmund's College, Cambridge University, UK

Steve Paulson, Executive Producer and interviewer for the nationally syndicated public radio program To the Best of our Knowledge
