Reprogramming a Disposable Culture

The AAAS Art Gallery, with support from the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowships Program, presents a panel discussion about what scientists, artists, policymakers, and others are doing to deal with the problem of waste worldwide. Speakers include Nick Wigginton, associate editor of the journal Science, photographer Huguette Roe, and Alan Hecht, director for sustainable development in the Office of Research and Development at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency The discussion will be held in the AAAS Auditorium at 1200 New York Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. at 5:30 p.m., with a reception to follow. There will also be an opportunity to visit "Disposable Culture," an exhibit in the AAAS Art Gallery that features the work of five artists who transformed discarded items into works of art.
