The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the world’s largest multi-disciplinary science society dedicated to advancing science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people. AAAS is the publisher of the journal Science and 5 other journals. Science has the largest paid circulation of any peer-reviewed general science journal in the world. AAAS was founded in 1848 and includes some 250 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals. As part of its mission, AAAS seeks to increase public engagement with science and technology, and to foster science and technology education for everyone. |

Schoodic Institute is a close nonprofit partner to the NPS that is dedicated to advancing ecosystem science and learning for all ages. Based within Acadia National Park, where it manages the Schoodic Education and Research Center campus, the Institute enriches the experiences of residents and visitors and builds understanding and appreciation for the complexity of the natural world. Research led and facilitated by Schoodic Institute is addressing questions that are important to stewardship of Acadia National Park and to our society—including understanding and responding to challenges such as climate change and ocean acidification. Through innovative programs and partnerships, the Institute is a national and community catalyst and center for connecting research and learning, and an emerging leader in the field of citizen science. |

The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) preserves unimpaired the natural resources of the park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Since 1916, NPS has safeguarded these special places and shared their stories with visitors—now with more than 300 million visits per year to over 400 units in the national park system. NPS cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world. Acadia National Park is committed to applying current research to its resource and visitor management decisions in a way that enhances the protection of those resources and assures the quality of the visitor experiences. With over 100 years of science supporting the NPS management of Acadia National Park, park resource managers and educators will play a critical role in assuring that science and science communications partnerships and programs are developed and implemented in ways that assure sustainability, compatibility with NPS policies and priorities, and relevance to local and national publics. |
