2021 AAAS Annual Election
The AAAS 2021 election for President-Elect, members of the Board of Directors and members of the Committee on Nominations was held from February 8, 2021 to February 22, 2021. Elected candidates will be announced soon and will begin their terms after the announcement.
The slate of candidates is posted below.
General Election Slate
The following candidates will appear on the ballot for the position of President-elect:

How Slates Are Determined:
In an annual general election, slates bearing at least two nominations for each of the following positions will appear on the slate:
(b) Elected Members of the Board
(c) Members of the Committee on Nominations.
Nominations for (a) and (b) shall be presented by the Committee on Nominations. Nominations for (c) shall be presented by the Committee on Council Affairs.
Additional names may be placed in nomination for any of these positions by petition of at least one hundred Members submitted to the Executive Officer within thirty days following the announcement of the election. Any such petition shall be accompanied by a curriculum vitae of the nominee and the nominee’s statement of acceptance of nomination.
In each section election, slates bearing at least two nominations for each of the following positions will appear on the slate:
(a) Council delegates of the Electorate
(b) Members of the Electorate’s Nominating Committee
(c) Section Chair-Elect
(d) Member-at-large of the Section Committee.
Nominations for these positions shall be agreed upon by the elected leaders of each section’s Electorate Nominating Committee.
Additional names may be placed in nomination for any of these positions by petition of at least fifty members of an Electorate submitted to the Executive Officer within thirty days following the announcement of the election. Any such petition shall be accompanied by a curriculum vitae of the nominee and the nominee’s statement of acceptance of nomination.
President-Elect: Election to the position of President-elect begins a three-year term as an officer of the association - one year each as President–elect, President, and chair of the Board of Directors. Duties over the course of the term include chairing AAAS governing bodies (Committee on Council Affairs, Council, and the Board of Directors) and directing programming for the AAAS Annual Meeting. Member of the Board of Directors: The AAAS Board of Directors, the fiduciary body of the organization, meets four times per year and plays an important role in directing the activities and administration of AAAS. (4-year term)
Members of the Committee on Nominations select the annual slate of candidates for President-Elect and the Board of Directors. (2-year term)
Council Delegates represent the interest of their disciplinary section on the Council, the policy-making body of the Association. (3-year term)
Chair: The Chair serves the first year as Chair-Elect, the second year as Chair, and the third year as Retiring Chair. During their tenure on the section Steering Group, they nominate and review Fellows, propose and review Annual Meeting symposia, lead the section business meeting, serve on the Electorate Nominating Committee, and represent section interests on the Council. Members-at-Large support the section Steering Group in its responsibilities including nomination and review of Fellows, and proposing and reviewing symposia for the AAAS Annual Meeting. (4-year term)
Members of the Electorate Nominating Committee select the annual slates of candidates for their disciplinary sections (3-year term)
The Committee on Nominations selects candidates for the President-elect and Board of Directors positions. The Committee is made up of eight elected members who serve two-year terms, along with the Board Chair.

Each of the 24 sections has its own Electorate Nominating Committee (ENC) made up of six members, elected for three-year terms, plus the Retiring Chair of the Steering Group. They select candidates for the positions of Section Chair-elect, Member-at-large, ENC, and Council delegate. Each ENC may be found here.
