AAAS Judicial Seminars

Beginning in 2006, AAAS has been convening two-day judicial education seminars in “Emerging Issues in Neuroscience.” With support from the Dana Foundation and in partnership with the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Judicial Division, the Federal Judicial Center, and the National Center for State Courts, AAAS has since hosted more than 30 neuroscience seminars across the United States, and more than 10 webinars.

In 2009, AAAS received the Judicial Education Award from the ABA’s Judicial Division’s National Conference of Specialized Court Judges “for its commitment to providing judicial education training” through the Judicial Seminars on Emerging Issues in Neuroscience.

In 2019, AAAS, again with support from the Dana Foundation, began offering one-day seminars on “The Opioid Crisis.” The seminar is targeted at state judges, in whose courts the effects of this public health epidemic are experienced on a daily basis. AAAS is also partnering with the nonprofit, nonpartisan Environmental Law Institute and the Federal Judicial Center to pilot seminars focusing on climate science and issues emerging in civil, regulatory, and criminal litigation.
