AAAS applauds the bipartisan leadership of the U.S. House Science, Space, and Technology Committee for rightly exercising its legislative oversight powers to shine a light on the pervasive sexual assault and harassment culture at federal remote field sites in the Antarctic and beyond. We are also pleased by the National Science Foundation’s harassment task force to address these issues head-on. The scientific community must work together to delve deeper into this matter and find long-lasting, robust solutions for all scientists no matter where they conduct their research. As a founder of the Societies Consortium on Sexual Harassment in STEMM that comprises 130 member societies, we are committed to advancing a community that includes all talent for excellence in STEMM and is free of sexual and gender harassment.
