The Society for Women’s Health Research has honored Sudip Parikh, chief executive officer of AAAS and executive publisher of the Science family of journals, with their 2022 Health Education Visionary Award for his work to advance women studying and working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“His leadership in support of women in STEM careers has laid the foundation for women to participate and lead in the industry, and his work has paved the way for others to evaluate their own commitment to building and advancing inclusive workforces for current and future generations,” the society said in a statement. The Society for Women’s Health Research is a nonprofit that seeks to promote research on biological sex differences in disease and to improve women’s health – goals that have resulted in women’s inclusion in most major medical research studies.
AAAS has “an important role to play to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for women to thrive in the scientific enterprise and to drive scientific excellence,” Parikh said in a video statement in advance of the April 28 award ceremony, citing such AAAS programs as SEA Change and the IF/THEN Ambassadors. “I'm honored to be at the helm of an organization that is doing its part to effect that change and honored to accept this award in partnership with our amazing team at AAAS.”
