The AAAS-Lemelson Invention Ambassadors Program completed its first year with a transition event for its inaugural class at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park on June 15th. In its second year, the program seeks to leverage its efforts and use the voices of Class 2 of Invention Ambassadors to further its vision: “to showcase the human face of inventors in order to inform, inspire and influence thought leaders and global communities.”
Today, we are pleased to announce Class 2 of Invention Ambassadors.
Lisa DeLuca – Technology Strategist for the IBM Commerce, Experience One Organization
Juan Gilbert – Andrew Banks Family Preeminence Endowed Chair and the Associate Chair of Research in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida
Jay Harman –CEO of PAX Scientific, Inc. and PAX Mixer, Inc.; Chairman of the board for PAX’s subsidiaries companies, PAX Water Technologies, Inc. and PAX Pure, Inc.
Andrew Hessel – Distinguished Researcher with Bio/Nano/Programmable Matter Group at Autodesk, Inc.; Founder of the Pink Army Cooperative
Suzie Pun – Robert J. Rushmer Professor of Bioengineering and Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington.
Rebecca Richards-Kortum – Stanley C. Moore Professor of Bioengineering at Rice University
Michael Smith – Director of Intel Academic Program and Digital Media Architect, Intel Corporation
This diverse group of Invention Ambassadors draws from various backgrounds and research areas and has leading roles in different sectors (academia, industry). The group has over 220 patents and has demonstrated: (1) a high regard for the role of invention; (2) an invention track record; (3) an accomplished professional career; (4) a commitment to invention’s role in impacting environmental sustainability; and (5) experience or interest in speaking to audiences.
AAAS and The Lemelson Foundation will welcome and celebrate its inaugural class on July 14th, where the Invention Ambassadors will join together at AAAS to share their stories as inventors, introduce their inventions and their impact in solving global problems.
