Antarctica, A Disappearing Land

This slideshow is temporarily unavailable.

Despite the frigid conditions and three months without sunlight, wildlife has long called Antarctica home. Penguins, seals, whales, and a variety of sea creatures inhabit the polar waters. But as global temperatures rise, this unique ecosystem is under attack. In his new book Lost Antarctica: Adventures in a Disappearing Land, AAAS member James McClintock documents the changes that are currently under way. He shared some extraordinary photos from his trips to Antarctica giving us a first hand account of what is happening there.
