The GIST Tech-I Competition received a record number of applications with more than 1000 applications being received from all around the world, covering all science and technology sectors from agriculture to aerospace.
These applications now move on to the review phase of the competition, during which experts will evaluate each application for its scientific and technical merit, as well as commercial potential. Based on these reviews, up to 100 semifinalists will be chosen to advance to a global public vote. The global vote will then help determine the 30 finalists who will compete at the GIST Tech-I Finals at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Silicon Valley. Finalists will receive training, mentorship, and have the opportunity to win capital seed prizes.
GIST Tech-I, part of the GIST Initiative, is an annual global science and technology entrepreneurship pitch competition which seeks to identify, train, and encourage exciting young scientists, engineers, and great minds to build businesses around the world. This year citizens from 135 emerging economies spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East were eligible to apply with an innovative science and technology idea or startup in any sector. Be sure to watch the website for your favorite S&T entrepreneurs to be announced as semi-finalists and vote for them starting April 1, 2016 so they can represent their ideas or startups in Silicon Valley!
