SB&F Helps Subaru Donate 200 Books to Indiana School

Subaru of America, Inc. Columbus Zone office and the Indiana Academy of Science have partnered with AAAS's SB&F staff to give 200 new science books to a public school in Indianapolis, IN as part of the SubaruLovesScience campaign.

On Friday, August 16th, representatives from  Indiana Academy of Science, and from Subaru Columbus Zone, and members of the local media converged at the Washington Irving School to deliver 200 books from the, "Scientists in the Field" series published by Houghton Mifflin. “We are so pleased to have been selected for this donation. We hope this is the beginning of a long-standing partnership between Subaru, Washington Irving and IPS,” said school Principal Karen Hastings. Indiana Academy of Science President Dale Edwards and Executive Director Delores Brown were also on hand to present the books to the students.

The science book donation was made possible through signature collection at the Indiana Academy of Science 128th Annual Academy Meeting, held March 9, 2013 in Indianapolis. Subaru then worked with SB&F staff to select a deserving school and to work with the school to tailor an appropriate donation that would include a collection of high quality books that met the needs of the school.

Many of the titles from the "Scientist in the Field" series have been featured in the SB&F Best Books lists. Many of the titles have also been selected as Finalists and winners of the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books, The Hive Detectives: Chronicle of a Honey Bee Catastrophe (2011) ,and The Frog Scientists (2010).

The AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prizes for Excellence in Science Books celebrate outstanding science writing and illustration for children and young adults.
