Science and Human Rights Coalition Student Poster Competition

The January 2014 meeting of the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition will feature a student poster competition. The Coalition invites undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in science and human rights to submit poster proposals. Students whose proposals are selected will have the opportunity to present their posters at the January 27-28 Coalition meeting. Proposals for entry must be submitted to by December 6, 2013.

The Coalition seeks to understand how the human right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications (Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 15 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights) can elevate fundamental scientific values, such as fair access to scientific knowledge, greater scientific freedom, and standards that are pursued all over the world. Important by itself, this human right is also essential to realization of other rights. As a network of scientific, engineering and health organizations that recognize a role for science and technology in promoting human rights, the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition has a unique and vital contribution to make to efforts to ensure that governments respect, protect, and fulfill this vital right.
