U.S. Invests in Climate Resilience

The Department of Transportation will invest $3.6 billion to fund 40 projects that will focus on improving climate change resilience for public transportation systems. About 90 percent of the funding will go to transit systems in New Jersey and New York, and the rest will go to Connecticut, DC, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.

In related news, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation, will distribute $1 billion to communities that have been recently affected by natural disasters in order to support innovative resilience projects. This funding was made available by the Community Development Block Grant disaster recovery appropriation in the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013.
