White House Releases Quadrennial Energy Review

Last week, the White House released the long-awaited Quadrennial Energy Review (QER), a comprehensive energy plan for modernizing the nation’s energy infrastructure. This week, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz testified before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on the QER and implementation plans. The plan includes funding for programs to modernize the electric grid and to create tax incentives for replacing aging systems (e.g., natural gas pipelines). It also calls for research in biofuels and geomagnetic storms, as well mitigation technologies to protect against such storms. A number of Senate Democrats, Senators Cantwell (WA), Franken (MN), Hirono (HI), King (ME), and Wyden (OR) are expected to introduce legislation to implement portions of the QER.
