NSF reports on plagiarism

At a House Science, Space and Technology Committee hearing last week, National Science Foundation Inspector General Allison Lerner said that the number of "substantive allegations of misconduct associated with NSF proposals and awards ... has more than tripled in the past 10 years, as has the number of findings of research misconduct." More than 80% of the findings of misconduct involved plagiarism.  NSF told ScienceInsider that an audit of 2011 proposals yielded nearly 100 cases of suspected plagiarism that the Inspector General's office is now investigating.
