Volunteer in GSK Science in the Summer

Help Inspire STEMM Talent This Summer: Become a GSK Science in the SummerTM Volunteer

Interested in inspiring the next generation of scientific talent? Have some free time this summer? Consider participating in AAAS’ 2023 GSK Science in the SummerTM program for elementary-school kids!

AAAS has managed Science in the Summer in the DC metro area (DMV) since 2012, partnering with libraries and Boys & Girls Clubs to serve 800 youth annually from underserved communities. This summer, the program is looking to increase and broaden its reach to 1,400 students in the DMV by connecting AAAS Members and other STEM professionals to summer STEMM learning opportunities for low-resourced youth. Partners include out-of-school-time providers, organizations that provide supervised programs and safe spaces for children when school is not in session.

As AAAS celebrates its 175th anniversary this year, we are committed to igniting progress for the next 175 years. Science in the Summer is just one way we seek to build relationships of trust within communities and create inclusive STEMM pathways for all students, especially those often overlooked and absent from STEM higher education and careers. A scientific enterprise that doesn’t represent the people it serves can never hope to adequately serve the people it represents. Help make this vision a reality!
