@carolynmbeans

I am a DC-based science writer and editor specializing in ecology, evolution and biomedicine. I earned a PhD in biology from the University of Virginia and a BA in English from Pennsylvania State University. My dissertation showed that an invasive jewelweed plant alters natural selection on a closely related native species. I am currently a AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellow at National Public Radio. I write primarily for the NPR blogs Shots and The Salt. My writing has also appeared in Nature, New Scientist, American Scientist, and other outlets.
