Chantel Fuqua, Ph.D.
Program Director
Dr. Chantel Fuqua is trained as a biochemist with specialties in cancer biology, general and physical chemistry, and cytokine signaling. Dr. Fuqua received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Saint Louis University, and PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Meharry Medical College. In her current role as a program director at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), she manages a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded STEM education portfolio focused on broadening participation in science, workforce diversity and inclusive pedagogy at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels.
Betty Calinger
Senior Project Director
Betty works on projects that build science literacy for all children in formal and informal settings through partnerships. She oversees the AAAS STEM Volunteer Program that places STEM professionals in classrooms in 7 school districts in the DC metro area to assist teachers. Betty also administers a summer science program for elementary students through partnerships with libraries, Boys & Girls Clubs, and other community-based organizations.
Lauren Manier
Senior Project Associate
Lauren Manier joined the STEM Education Team in June of 2020 and works as a Senior Project Associate with the IUSE and Noyce/ARISE Initiatives. Lauren has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in Community and Nonprofit Leadership and Political Science. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health in Applied Epidemiology from the University of Arizona.
Jeunice Lim
Event Operations Manager
Jeunice Lim joined AAAS in May of 2022 as the Event Operations Manager. She is responsible for supporting planning and implementation of three major convenings within AAAS’s Inclusive STEMM Ecosystems for Equity & Diversity (ISEED) program unit – the Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference, IUSE Summit, and Noyce Summit. Prior to AAAS, she has worked with managing events and meetings for a non-profit organization and a hotel in the D.C. area. She holds a BS in Business Administration from University of Maryland Global Campus.
