Briahna Gray, 2006 Intern
From the beginning, my experience at Science was one of independence and discovery. Given the freedom to pursue the subjects of my choosing and to write and research with minimal guidance, the internship taught both the skills of the trade and how to use them to the greatest effect. From day one we were expected to use an array of internet tools to seek out stories that we thought were worth reporting on. While this was initially disconcerting, it soon became clear that choosing the story—being able to recognize not only what was news worthy but what would make a good article for Science—was as important a skill to nurture as any other.
