I am a 4th-year Chemistry Ph.D. student at UMass Amherst in Professor D. Venkataraman's ALIEN (Advanced Laboratory for Iontronic, Electronic, and Nanomaterials) and I am thrilled to be writing for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch this summer! My thesis work centers on an ironic problem with a family of materials called HOIPs (hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites), which are promising solar cell materials that fall apart in the sunlight. I am researching the cause of this degradation and creating stable new HOIP derivatives. When I'm not making materials or communicating science, you can find me advocating for a more inclusive science culture, doing yoga in my living room, reading Stephen King, or watching all of Arrested Development for the 5th time.
