Dr. Joana Marques Melo is a senior program associate at the AAAS Center for Scientific Evidence in Public Issues (AAAS EPI Center). Joana has a comprehensive interdisciplinary background with broad national and international experience in industry and academia, including engineering, management, and education. Her research experience includes energy efficiency, reduction of primary energy consumption, and distributed energy resources. Prior to AAAS, she was a visiting assistant professor in engineering education at Purdue University.
Joana received her Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. She also earned her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from ISEP in Portugal and her master’s degree in Energy for Sustainable Development from UPC in Spain.
