I am a science writer and recently earned a PhD. in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado Boulder. In an unusual, two-part course of study, I showed how a DNA-decorating protein helps genes turn on in cancer cells suffering from too little oxygen, and in a completely unrelated second part, investigated what a muscle protein is doing in the brain. Beyond the lab bench, I acted as editor-in-chief for a graduate student-run blog Science Buffs and co-organized several science and science communication symposiums, including the upcoming ComSciCon Rocky Mountain West. I am honored to join the ranks of AAAS Mass Media Fellows and excited to contribute to the PBS NewsHour this summer!
