Yomarie Bernier

I completed a Master in Environmental Science at Universidad del Turabo in Puerto Rico and now I am working toward my PhD in the same discipline. I will be graduating in June 2018. My dissertation is emphasized on the bioprospecting of bacteria capable of degrading hexadecane at Caño Martín Peña in Puerto Rico. Additional to my academic responsibilities I am working as a mentor of undergraduate students in the environmental microbiology research laboratory. In 2016, I was selected as a Yale Ciencia Academy Fellow that sparked my interest in science communication. The Academy provided me with skills and helped me to define my goals toward the future. In summer 2017, I will be writing for Univisión Miami as a AAAS Mass Media Fellow.
