AAAS and The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS), based in Trieste, Italy, are seeking candidates for the AAAS-TWAS Course on Science Diplomacy to be held in-person in Trieste, Italy from 19 June to 23 June, 2023. For the third consecutive year, applications to attend the course are being invited from ‘participant pairs.’

Applications for the course are due March 5. 

To celebrate the 10^th anniversary of its online publication, the Center hosted the webinar "A Decade of Science & Diplomacy" on November 8th, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm ET. The event featured four authors who contributed to the issue published on October 12th reflecting on the state of science diplomacy throughout the last ten years. Contributors are most of the first authors to publish in Science & Diplomacy during its first year, in 2012. The recording is available here.

The workshop will be held virtually. For the second consecutive year, applications to attend the course are being invited from ‘participant pairs.’

The submissions period ended on April 20. 

To foster discussion about a role for science diplomacy in responding to the challenges and opportunities posed by emerging technologies, the Center hosted a webinar featuring four authors from selected pieces included in Science & Diplomacy's special issue on science diplomacy and emerging technologies. The event was held on March 16, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm EST. Watch the recording, available here. 

AAAS and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) are seeking candidates to participate in the AAAS-TWAS Course on Science Diplomacy to be held online from August 30 to September 3, 2021. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2021. 

For the first time, applications will be accepted from participant pairs, formed by a young scientists and a person from the policymaking arena. 

AAAS and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Summer Course on Science Diplomacy--originally planned from July 10th to the 13th--has been rescheduled from September 21st to the 24th. It will be held in a virtual format, with no footprint in Trieste, Italy. 

Selected participants will be contacted with additional information. 

The AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy and DiploFoundation will discuss a recent joint study and report on how diplomatic outposts can utilize science and technology representatives to conduct activities in Washington DC and in global innovation hubs, with a particular focus on the Boston ecosystem.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries’ Arab Regional Partner (TWAS-AREP) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) are seeking candidates to participate in the regional workshop on science diplomacy for the Arab Region, that will be held on 12-16 June 2019 in Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, Egypt. This workshop is the second among a series of courses within specific regions, launched by AAAS and TWAS, to better address relevant regional science diplomacy issues.  Applications are due on March 27, 2019.

The AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy hosted the fourth annual science diplomacy conference, “Science Diplomacy 2018,” at AAAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy’s, along with the Science and Education Policy Association (SEPA), held a stimulating pre-conference workshop to share practices and exchange perspectives on science diplomacy education and training and participate in a hands-on climate diplomacy negotiation simulation.
