Applications for 2021 are now open. Apply by March 5th, 2021!
- Interested candidates should submit a resume, two news writing samples, and an applicant essay.
- Writing samples should be examples of journalism or other pieces intended for a general audience—not a class assignment. Stories relating to research or other matters relating to the scientific community are preferred. Please do not include examples of technical writing (i.e. scientific papers). Writing samples should be sent as PDFs or Word files, not as URLs.
- Applicant essay should focus on your diverse voice and commitment to extending the reach of science journalism into communities where there is currently limited participation, experience in journalism, thoughts about science and science writing, how this opportunity will advance your career goals, and include any classes, experiences, affiliations, etc. that you think will make you an ideal candidate for this internship
Who can apply for the internship?
The internship is open to undergraduates with a serious interest in science writing. Preference will be given to those students pursuing a degree in journalism. You must be enrolled in an academic program at the time you submit your application.
You must be a college undergraduate at the time you submit your application.
If you are a scientist and looking for a fellowship in science writing consider applying for the AAAS Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellowship.
