Entry Point! is the signature program of the AAAS Project on Science, Technology, and Disability. Entry Point! identifies and recruits students with apparent and non-apparent disabilities studying in science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, and some fields of business for outstanding internship and co-op opportunities.
Since 1996, AAAS and Entry Point! has created partnerships with NASA, IBM, Merck, Dow Chemical, Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace, L’Oreal, as well as university based research programs seeking to diversify their pool of interns.
Working with its partners, Entry Point! identifies and screens undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities and recommends them for paid summer internships. Students with disabilities earn the opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting in these leading companies and agencies.
Entry Point! internships are particularly valuable because of the availability of mentoring and assistive technology, facilitating the entry and advancement of individuals with significant disabilities into competitive employment and research at all levels.
New Opportunities Open Doors
Entry Point! partners have work sites located throughout the USA. We know that students with a disability have already met and overcome many challenges to get into and succeed in a university program. A summer internship in a new location often challenges students in unexpected ways. The environment may be very different from ones hometown or university. Frequently, learning about other people and other ways of doing things allows the student to learn more about themselves. A successful internship and the experience of working in a different location will often result in an enhanced resume and new, unexpected career opportunities.
