HBCU Making and Innovation Initiative

About the Making and Innovation Initiative

The goal of the HBCU Making & Innovation Initiative is to encourage and support increased participation in STEM-related innovation and entrepreneurship activities by students of color. This will be done by offering institutions opportunities to highlight student work in making through competition in the HBCU Making and Innovation Showcase and creating awareness through our roadshows.

About the HBCU Making and Innovation Showcase

Students are tasked with identifying a community challenge. The challenge idea was not limited to any particular framework, but the challenge will be one that addresses one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 goals represent the UNs shared vision of humanity and are a social contract between the world’s leaders and the people.  The goals are part of the 2030 agenda adopted by the UN in September 2016. This added perspective integrates a sense of local and global awareness into their work.

About the Innovation Forward Roadshow

The roadshow provides two days of interactive workshops for students, faculty, administrators, inventors, entrepreneurs, startup founders and K-12 students and teachers. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about invention, innovation, technology transfer and entrepreneurship.
