Attabey Rodríguez Benítez

Bio

I'm currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan in the Chemical Biology program where I leverage Nature's power, enzymes, to pave new ways to make life-saving therapeutics. I am a proud first-generation student, I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. In addition to research, I am passionate about science communication through my previous role as author and translator with Michigan Science Writers (MiSciWriters), a graduate-student-run organization, I polished my writing skills both in Spanish and English writing articles on cutting-edge science findings, local seminars, and interesting science concepts both in both languages. Now, as a freelance writer for the Journal of the American Chemical Society,  I write content on editor-selected articles for a non-expert audience. When she is not science-ing she listens to podcasts hours on end. This is one of the main reasons I am so excited to start my AAAS fellowship with Science Friday!! Follow her adventures on Twitter and Instagram as @ScienceBey.
