Charlene Rivera Bonet

Bio

I recently obtained my PhD in neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My dissertation research focused on investigating brain structural and functional changes in relation to depression using Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Early in my graduate studies, I started volunteering for science outreach events and eventually started diving deeper into the world of science communication through a PhD minor in Life Science Communication. Since then, I have been co-chair of my graduate program’s outreach committee and written articles for El Nuevo Día and Ciencia Puerto Rico. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, playing volleyball and singing karaoke. I am excited to continue sharing science this summer as a AAAS Mass Media Fellow at El Nuevo Día/GFR Media based in the beautiful island I call home, Puerto Rico.
