Jerald Pinson

I'm a PhD candidate at the University of Florida in the Department of Biology where I work on the phylogenetics and ecology of ferns. If ferns weren't arcane enough, I specifically focus on ferns that never complete their lifecycle, research that's taken me from the rainforests of Costa Rica to the mountains of Hawaii, throughout the Appalachian Mountains, and into dense karst hammocks hidden away in Miami. Being a scientist has been a rewarding experience, but I've consistently enjoyed writing about science even more than conducting it myself, so I'm thrilled to have been selected as a Mass Media Fellow and look forward to the challenges and opportunities it will bring. When I'm not writing, I enjoy reading and working on a few books of my own, as well as running, biking, and creating homemade soaps and candles.
