I am a student at the University of Iowa and aspiring physician-scientist. My research interests and work broadly focus on understanding how genetic and environmental factors and interactions influence human health, and using computational, data-driven approaches to improving patient-centered care and treatments. I've been a "techie" since my early days programming, but equally important to me is community and global engagement. I love participating in community outreach and service activities of all kinds. I wrote my first op-ed in a local newspaper as a naive 7th grader, and wrote for my college newspaper and other publications as an undergraduate and graduate student. As a student, I've particularly enjoyed my creative writing courses and activities (even when others would tease me about it), and am currently on the long, arduous path of writing my first book. In general, I love working on projects that bring us together as a global community to solve and prevent global problems. I'm very excited to be joining the team at The Inquirer this summer as an AAAS Mass Media Fellow!
