Rachel Rodriguez

Bio

I am a recent graduate (M. Sc.) from the University of Notre Dame, where I studied the effects of climate change on boreal forest tree growth. While in graduate school, I was a member of the biology department's DEI committee, as well as the Latino Graduate Association at Notre Dame, and became a founding member of a mutual aid organization in my hometown in response to COVID-19. Along with this, I developed my own website, where I was able to write about my graduate work as well as other environmental news, and took on freelance roles for independent media outlets. As much as I love science, my passion lies in how communities can engage in it. This is why I am so excited to be writing for InsideClimate News this summer. I look forward to learning more about science writing from such a reputable team, and am thankful for the support of AAAS as well as the Heising-Simons Foundation for their sponsorship. When I am not working as a Mass Media fellow, you can catch me taking film pictures around NYC!
