Rishi is a PhD candidate at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography studying the effects of long-term changes in climate on the evolution of life. Outside of his academic life, research co-founded the Center for Interdisciplinary Environmental Justice in 2015 which uses science as a strategic tool to support communities resisting environmental and climate injustices. He is a science writer with Tomorrow Unlocked, and a science communicator and expedition team member in the upcoming documentary "From Kurils with Love." He has also helped produced the in-progress documentary "Salt and Sky" focusing on the impacts of green technology on indigenous communities in the Andean Altiplano.
