Sophia Charan

Bio

Originally from Minnesota, I am now finishing up my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Caltech, where I study the formation of particulate matter and the reactors we use to understand the atmosphere. For the past few years, I focused on non-traditional sources of urban aerosols, such as those that originate from personal care products. I also co-host the podcast Not My Thesis, which explores the published and unpublished parts of science and have worked in science policy, especially related to climate change. This past year proved how very important science journalism is, and it is such an honor to be a AAAS Mass Media Fellow this summer at the Idaho Statesman. I look forward to getting to know Boise and writing about science!
