The Office of Science, Policy and Society Programs has four advisory committees. Members for each of the committees are appointed by the AAAS Board of Directors.
Committee on Opportunities in Science (COOS)
The Committee on Opportunities in Science is a AAAS board-appointed committee. The mandate of COOS includes diversity concerns for the newly developed STEM Education and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusions departments, as well as those across AAAS.
Committee on Science & Technology Engagement with the Public (CoSTEP)
The AAAS Committee on Science & Technology Engagement with the Public (CoSTEP) is appointed by the Association's Board of Directors and supports AAAS in its goals related to enhancing communication among scientists, engineers, and the public; providing a voice for science on societal issues; and increasing public engagement with science and technology.
Committee on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility (CSFR)
The Committee on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility was established in 1976 by AAAS and advises on issues related to human rights, freedom of scientific inquiry, and the professional responsibilities of scientists and engineers.
National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists (NCLS)
The National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists was established in 1974 as a joint committee of AAAS and the American Bar Association's (ABA) Section of Science and Technology Law.
