This document is a first effort to articulate a theory of change for public engagement activities across the spectrum of efforts that occur under this umbrella. The accompanying Logic Model for Public Engagement with Science outlines the vision for public engagement.

This theory of change intends to provide a common framework, language, and research-based foundation for the many professionals involved in public engagement with science activities, and to serve as a starting point to enable scientists, practitioners, and researchers to continually improve and develop collective understanding of effective practices in public engagement with science.
