We invite eligible organizations who share the Coalition’s goals to participate as members. Individuals are encouraged to participate through their scientific associations or professional societies, but may also be involved as affiliated individuals. The Coalition currently has 22 member and 2 affiliated organizations. Learn more about our member activities.

Member Organizations

Member Organizations are scientific associations, professional societies, academies, and other formal networks of scientists, engineers and health professionals. Members assign two representatives to both participate actively in at least one committee or working group and represent their organization on the Coalition Council. The two representatives may be members of the organization's leadership, membership, and/or staff.

Affiliated Organizations

Affiliated Organizations are scientific associations, professional societies, academies, and other formal networks of scientists, engineers and health professionals, but which have yet to determine whether they want to join the Coalition as Members. Affiliated organizations assign one representative to participate actively in at least one committee or working group. Affiliated organizations are not represented on the Coalition Council.

Affiliated Individuals

Affiliated Individuals are individual scientists, engineers or health professionals who support the Coalition's objectives and/or want to explore the relevance of human rights to their scientific disciplines. Affiliated Individuals are encouraged to participate in Coalition committees and/or working groups. Only designated organizational representatives may speak on behalf of the member organizations, however.

Annual Contributions

Member and affiliated organizations of the Coalition are required to make annual contributions. One primary purpose of the Annual Contributions is to ensure a solid financial base for supporting the core Coalition activities. These contributions help support the Secretariat’s costs associated with managing the Coalition and also go directly towards the costs of Coalition activities.

Annual Contributions paid by each organization are scaled and calculated according to their average annual total revenue in the three years preceding payment. Organizations without any revenue are not required to make Annual Contributions. The Annual Contributions scale is as follows:

$20 million + -$3,000
$10 - 20 million -$2,500
$5 - 10 million -$1,750
$1 - 5 million -$1,000
$100,000 - 1 million -$500
<$100,000 -$100

Annual Contributions of affiliated organizations are calculated at 75 percent of the above rates. Individuals are not required to make Annual Contributions.
