AAAS and the China Association for Science & Technology (CAST) are engaged in dialogue on the ethical and social responsibilities of scientists and engineers. In addition to four meetings convened so far (see below), there are plans for joint projects and other collaborative activities.
[2014] China-US Scientific Morality/Integrity Development Seminar, Washington D.C, October 8-9, 2014
[2012] Case Study Seminar on “Scientific Integrity and Research Ethics,” Hangzhou, China, September 21-22, 2012
AAAS is collaborating with CAST to develop a new and unique resource of its kind – cross-cultural case studies for research ethics education in U.S. and Chinese universities. The cases will highlight cultural differences between the two countries that may affect how issues are interpreted and understood, as well as those raised in the context of cross-national research.
[2010] Joint Steering Committee on Ethics in Science
CAST and AAAS have established a Joint Steering Committee to coordinate work on ethics in science by the two organizations. The responsibilities of the committee took effect on June 30, 2010.
