Through our projects, the Program responds to emerging issues, new themes, and urgent needs in the scientific and human rights communities. These projects span the globe.
AAAS partnered with HelpAge USA to conduct a study assessing the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) among persons older than 49 years of age in populations of protracted displacement.
This project will develop ethical principles and guidelines, as well as draft best practices for the use of remote sensing and volunteered geographic information (VGI) in crisis situations.
AAAS is working with the Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala (FAFG) to build FAFG's capacity of applying innovative methods to visualize, and analyze evidence recovered from exhumation sites.
With support from the Oak Foundation, the Program worked to strengthen the scientific foundation of human rights-based geospatial analysis through advanced research projects.
