AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF)
American Association for the Advancement of Science
Provide opportunities to outstanding scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills to the federal policymaking process. Fellows serve yearlong assignments in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the federal government in Washington. Each year, the program adds to a growing corps over 3,000 strong of policy-savvy leaders working across academia, government, nonprofits and industry to serve the nation and the world.

Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship (AEF) Program
Department of Energy
Program provides a unique opportunity for accomplished K-12 educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to serve in the national education arena. Fellows spend eleven months working in a Federal agency or in a U.S. Congressional office, bringing their extensive knowledge and experience in the classroom to education program and/or education policy efforts.

Belfer Center Emerging Issues in Science, Technology, and Public Policy Fellowships
Harvard University
Fellows are provided with a stipend, benefits, and some support for research and travel expenses. Each fellow, in consultation with Program Director Dan Schrag, will be assigned a faculty mentor affiliated with STPP to supervise his or her research. We anticipate that the mentors will be active participants in the research activities.

Dalmas A. Taylor Memorial Summer Minority Policy Fellowship
Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues
The Taylor Fellowship program runs for 8-12 weeks and emphasizes participation in a range of public policy activities and a number of projects, as well as opportunities to attend federal policy-focused events. Applicants must be a member of an ethnic minority group and indicate an interest in ethnic minority psychological issues. Applicants must also be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited doctoral program in psychology or a related field.

FDA Tobacco Regulatory Science Fellowship
National Academy of Medicine
Launched in 2012, this regulatory science fellowship is a collaborative program between the FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) and the National Academy of Medicine. It is designed for mid-career professionals to gain experience and expertise to further define and develop the field of regulatory science as it relates to the regulation of tobacco products and FDA’s authorities under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

Franklin Talent Exchange Program

The Franklin Fellows Program is a unique and innovative program that brings outside experts to the Department of State and USAID and allows citizens a chance to serve and to deepen their professional experience. Mid-career and more senior Franklin Fellows work on issues of vital importance to the United States, such as trade and financial policy, entrepreneurship, counterterrorism, regional issues, human rights, and trans-national diseases.

Genetics Education & Engagement Fellowship
American Society of Human Genetics
This fellowship program is designed for genetics professionals (or life scientists with substantial experience in genetics or genomics) who: have an advanced degree, are early in their careers, and are interested in developing and implementing genetic and genomic literacy, engagement, diversity, and/or professional development initiatives for audiences comprising K-12, undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and professional. The fellow will participate in rotations at the NHGRI and ASHG, and typically a third organization involved in genetic and genomic literacy, engagement, diversity, or professional development.

Jefferson Science Fellows Program
National Academies of Science Engineering Medicine
The JSF is open to tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens. The application period opens in early August and closes at the end of October. After successfully obtaining a security clearance, selected Jefferson Science Fellows spend one year on assignment at the U.S. Department of State or USAID as science advisors on foreign policy/international development issues. Assignments are tailored to the needs of the hosting office, while taking into account the Fellows’ interests and areas of expertise. Following the fellowship year, Fellows will return to their academic career but will remain available to the U.S. government as an experienced consultant for short-term projects.

During the program, you spend months working with legislators and their staffs, participating in committee hearings, briefing members of Congress, drafting legislation, and serving as a constituent liaison. You also connect with key decision makers and power brokers, learn about policy development, and join a national network of policy entrepreneurs. On the other side of the equation, you become an indispensable subject-matter expert for legislators. Your perspectives on critical issues provide insights that congressional staffers, as generalists, may not be able to supply.

Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship

The Foster Fellows program affords tenured and tenure-track academic faculty the unique opportunity to bring their research and expertise to the Department of State to assist in policy and programmatic development in arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament activities. Fellows are assigned to one of the three bureaus under the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance (AVC) Bureau, the International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN) Bureau, or the Political-Military Affairs (PM) Bureau.
